My recent work has moved away from the figure towards abstract sculpture and vessel forms of an unconventional nature.
In this piece the design and colour makes references to aspects of landscape; utilising more natural colours and basic elements of glass.
This work celebrates the opaque, earthy and less obvious qualities of glass as a creative medium; avoiding the obvious qualities of transparent, refractive, and polished surfaces. It is an exploration of textures and surface pattern realised using glass recycled from wine, beer, and spirit bottles.
The glass bowl sits upon a ceramic, raku - fired stand. I like the idea of bringing two high temperature kiln - formed products together to unite as one piece. This feels fitting because in my working process most pieces begin their life as ceramic ‘drawings’ and models.
