Fruitful

Fruitful explores the pregnant form and germination, that the appendage can be separate, yet still part of the whole. Forming an object from the inside out, I try to suggest a process of transformation.

I case translucent colours with opaque white glass, as I am drawn to the translucent properties of glass, rather than transparency.

This also allows me to create vibrant depth of colour. The work is free blown and simple metal tools are used to sculpt the exterior form. Once the piece is on the punty hand tools are used to push out and stretch the glass from the inside. As the glass is stretched, the white glass sandwiched inside, begins to show. This gives the impression of an inner skin trying to push through and creates a soft organic quality in the work as I am drawn to the translucent properties of glass, rather than transparency.
