Artist’s Statement: In essence I am interested in the space between what you see and what you think you see. As such my work involves the process of exploring the inner world of the mind and its manifestations.  Each mask/head is a singular facet of what it is to be in Bi-polar framework: sometimes calm and serene, more often fraught and alarming. Each head tells it own tale – a story, which the viewer also brings lines and passages to. Whilst every head is a stand-alone image the work forms part of a whole as in an ethnographical collection.

The methodology of the work comes out of research into material processes in pâte de verre undertaken in various investigations into the working practices of the French pâte de verre artist Amalric Walter (1870-1959) – the key of which was how to colour glass during the kiln forming process at

800 °C using metallic salts.
